5.0 out of 5 stars The reason I started reading books!, 20 Feb 2002
By A Customer
I first read this book when I was 13 and since then i have read it hundreds of times over the following 14 years. It is the most action packed, gripping. well written book. The characters suck you in and you actually care what happens to each one of them. The premise for the book sounds simple enough, two men kidnap the daughter of a psychologist. One of the psycholgists patients has something the men want and its up to the psychologist to get the information to get his daughter back. Sounds predictable enough but when you throw in that the patient is very disturbed and unable to provide the information, the psychologist will try kamikaze missions to get his daughter back and that the kidnappers are evil incarnate, one in particular is very violent happy, then mayhem ensues. This is a clever book, and the main baddie Sport, is the most charasmatic, evil, and strangely attractive man. In all honesty this is the book that for 14 years i have judged all other thrillers by. Dont wait to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book that the film could not match, 11 Jun 2003
By penny (Kent, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I first bought this book when I was unemployed. Had some time to fill, never heard of the author but what the heck! Thank god I did. That was nearly 10 years ago and I am still re-reading it and lending it to friends saying 'You must read this. It is the best thriller you will ever read.' The story is spell binding. When a psychologists daughter is kidnapped, and his & his wifes every move watched, the psychologist has to do everything he can to get information from a very disturbed patient. Without that information he will never see his daughter again.

I always feel that very few films ever measure up to the book and this is one of them. The suspense and twists in the book are much more exciting and engaging. A must buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars An alright thriller, 17 Jun 2003
This book is fairly entertaining , especially if you can get the image of Michael Douglas as the hero out of your head. If you have a young daughter this book must be even more terrifying.
Overall worth a read.
